Dr Rajeev Sharan, an MBBS graduate of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS, New Delhi), completed his MS, Surgery and Senior Residency in Surgical Oncology from AIIMS, New Delhi. He went on to complete his MCh in Head & Neck Surgical Oncology from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin. He has more than 19 years of experience in head and neck surgical oncology and thyroid surgery, working in premier institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin and Tata Medical Center, Kolkata.Dr. Sharan was working as a Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology (Head &Neck) in Tata Medical Center, Kolkata and had been associated with this institute since inception before joining HCG EKO Cancer Centre, Kolkata. He is one of the best head and neck cancer and thyroid surgeon in Kolkata and Eastern Region of India. He has special interests in remote access scarless neck robotic/endoscopic hemi/total thyroidectomy, robotic/endoscopic neck dissection, transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for laryngeal, pharyngeal cancer & parapharyngeal space tumors, skull base surgery, tracheal resection and reconstruction surgery, management of early & advanced oral cancer, thyroid cancer, parathyroid tumors, paranasal sinus cancer, parotid & other salivary gland tumors, laser surgery for laryngeal cancers and local/pedicled/microvascular free flap reconstruction for cancer surgery defects apart from routine head neck cancer surgery. He has vast experience in open/ scarless neck robotic/endoscopic thyroid surgery for benign as well as malignant thyroid tumors. He has several publications to his credit in reputed national and international journals in various aspects of head and neck oncology, robotic/endoscopic scarless neck surgery and microvascular reconstruction. He has interests in cancer stem cell research.He has been invited as a faculty in different national and international conferences. He is a strong proponent of multidisciplinary team approach for management of different head and neck and thyroid cancers for best possible outcomes and preservation of function and cosmesis, leading to better quality of life.

1. Undergraduate.: MBBS, AIIMS, New Delhi (1993-98): I did my MBBS from the premier medical institute of India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. This is the most prestigious medical school in India that selects the top 34 general meritorious candidates across the country.
2. Post Graduate: MS, Surgery, AIIMS, New Delhi (1999-2002): I learnt various surgical skills and principle of surgery during my surgical residency at AIIMS. I was exposed to laparoscopy, video assisted thoracic surgery and various major surgical procedures. I was rotated in Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Casualty and Emergency Medicine
3. Specialty Training.
Surgical Oncology, IRCH, AIIMS, New Delhi (2002-2005): During senior residency, I was exposed to modern multidisciplinary management of cancer of head and neck, breast, thorax, gastrointestinal tract, soft tissue sarcoma, and gynecological tract. During this period, I assisted and independently performed various major oncological surgeries. Also, I gained experience in diagnostic endoscopic procedures- upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy. During this period, I developed special interest in head neck oncology.
MCh, Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin (2005- 2008): I was involved in comprehensive management of head and neck cancer patients. I assisted/ independently performed various head and neck oncological surgeries including surgery for oral cavity cancer, oropharynx, larynx, hypopharynx, paranasal sinuses, skull base, thyroid, and parotid. I learnt multidisciplinary team approach to head and neck cancer management. I got training in sentinel lymph node biopsy for head and neck cancer. I have a very good experience in minimal invasive surgery including laser and endoscopic laryngeal surgery. I have extensive training and vast experience in microvascular free flap reconstruction for head and neck, skull base and other sites. I have been well trained in skull base surgery for skull base tumors.

This region has one of the maximum number of oral cancer cases due to rampant use of tobacco. This Centre caters to a large population of head and neck cancer patients covering Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Bengal, eastern UP, North East region, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Department of head and neck oncology at Paras HMRI Hospital was very advanced and equipped with latest technology and advanced infrastructure. This is one of the few cancer hospitals in Delhi which have organ wise cancer management units. I was part of the head and neck surgical oncology unit. I was involved in management of head and neck cancer and microvascular free flap reconstruction.

Main case load was head and neck cancer cases. Oral cavity cancer is very common in this part of India. I started comprehensive surgical services in SVIMS for all types of head and neck cancer including oral cavity, oropharynx, larynx, hypopharynx, paranasal sinuses and skull base along with oncoplasty. I was also involved in management of other common cancer like breast, gastrointestinal, soft tissue and gynecological cancer cases.
